Social Impact of Ekal Vidyalaya & Third Party Assessment

  • Socio-cultural-economic Development – Inculcating traditional values and culture at young age apart from imparting basic education and educating to use local resources.
  • 73 lakhs students passed out. Ekal students made careers in army, teaching, sports etc.
  • Building nation by five-fold education- Educated India, Healthy India, Self-reliant India, Aware India, Drug-free India, Organized India, Safe India, One India, culturally strong India.
  • Instrumental in addressing national problems- terrorism, conversion, naxalism- By opening Schools in border areas (Punjab, Rajasthan, J&K, UP, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh etc.), hilly areas (Himachal, Uttarakhand), in Naxal affected areas (Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, North-Eastern states etc.) besides in rural and tribal villages.
  • Women Empowerment – About 50% of the children studying in a school are girls, the number of female teachers is 72%, and the number of women workers is 22%

  • Selecting socio-economic backward districts to intervene across the states in India.
  • Imparting value education to children when people are moving away from their customs and traditional values. The effect is also expected to rub off on parents and larger village communities (through their children).
  • Improvement in handwriting and self reading skills among children. Pedagogy used: Games, storytelling, singing songs. Results: students pick-up concepts very quickly; increased comprehension; enhanced memory power; better General knowledge.
  • Positive changes observed in children going to EVs related to discipline when compared to formal schools in control villages.
