About Ekal
Ekal Abhiyan started in 1989 with a handful of Vidyalaya having crossed a mark of 1, 00,000 Vidyalaya in November 2019. Ekal Abhiyan Trust (ABT) is the apex body, registered on 20th April, 2012 under Indian Trust Act, lay down policy and planning framework. The field operations are undertaken by its organizations which are independently registered autonomous bodies under Societies Act or Indian Trusts Act. These follow the curriculum designed by experts together with the protocol on training, supervision, organization, accounting and compliances as guided by the ABT.
Functional Structure of Ekal Abhiyan (Movement) includes Nagar Sangathan and Gram Sangathan. Nagar Sangathan has eight registered national level organizations viz. Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad (BLSP) Delhi, Friends & Tribal Society (FTS) Kolkata, Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of India (EVFI) Delhi, Arogya Foundation of India (AFI), Ekal Gramothan Foundation (EGF) Delhi, Shri Hari Satsang Samiti (SHSS) Mumbai, Ekal Global Foundation (EGL) Delhi and Ekal Sansthan (ES) Delhi. Gram Sangathan (EGS) was registered in 2015 nationally and has 5 local organizations duly registered. Central Executive Committee of Gram Sangathan monitor the following –
- Decision Making Process through Central Yojna Core, Akhil Bhartiya Pratinidhi Mandal, Kendriy Karyakari Mandal & Gram Sangathan Karyakarini Samiti.
- Field Operations through Zonal Committee (Prabhag), State Committee (Sambhag), Division Committee (Bhag), District Committee (Anchal), Block Committee (Sanch) and Village Committee (Gram).
- Shared Services of Finance (Arth), HR (Karyakarta), Administration (Karyalaya), Media (Samwad) and Self-reliance (Swavalamban).
Ekal Abhiyan is engaged in Nation Building and holistic development of remote rural and tribal villages through fivefold education viz. Basic Education, Healthcare Education, Skill Development Education, Ethics & Value Based Education and Empowerment Education. FTS and BLSP relentlessly work to raise resources for schools, Gramothan Foundation works for integrated & holistic village development, Arogya Foundation works for health care, SHSS is responsible for promoting cultural heritage and Ekal Sansthan takes care of quality control, research & development, Media along with policy & advocacy. EVFI is responsible for judicious management of funds raised from outside India.
Ekal Abhiyan is operating in 27 states of Bharat, 36 districts, 3546 blocks and over 1 lakh through over eight lakhs of volunteers. Ekal is able to achieve women empowerment. Females constitute 50% students, 72% teachers, 100% health workers, 100% trainees in tailoring, 31% of whole-time volunteers, 40% IT literacy trainees, 30% trainees under Ekal on Wheels, 15% of farer trainees, 60% trainees of nutritional garden, 35% of Sanskar volunteers, 40% of participants in weekly pathshala and 60% of participants of Sanskar Rath & Katha. Ekal synthesized the social aspects of Gandhian development into its processes and programmes such as gender equality, social harmony, respect for all faiths and non-violence.
In recognition of our works, Ekal Abhiyan was bestowed in 2019 “Gandhi Peace Award” for the year 2017 by Government of India. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narender Modi sent a letter of appreciation on this achievement.
